So far, the Oregon Ducks have not been able to cash in on their early efforts in the 2028 recruiting cycle. Another big target for the Ducks in the class came off the board, but won't be coming to Eugene.

2028 blue-chip edge rusher Darieon Prescott announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Monday, choosing the Irish over Oregon and Texas A&M. It's the second big recruiting win for the Irish over the Ducks within the last week, as Notre Dame also pulled in four-star defensive lineman Brayden Parks in the 2027 class.

The Ducks did host Prescott for a visit in early June, but a visit to South Bend, closer to his home in Bolingbrook, Illinois, sealed the deal for the Irish. Prescott is ranked as the No. 18 overall player and No. 5 edge rusher in the 2028 class, per the Rivals Industry Ranking. He is also the No. 1 player from Illinois in the class.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound edge rusher racked up 65 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, five sacks, eight pass breakups and 26 pressures last season. He also forced three fumbles. Despite his early commitment to Notre Dame, Oregon likely won't give up on this recruitment just yet, more than a year away from the 2028 signing period.

Oregon has pushed for top recruits in the 2028 class but has yet to pull in a commitment. The Ducks fell short in the race for No. 1 overall recruit Jett Harrison (Ohio State) earlier in the cycle, but do appear to be in good position with prospects such as four-star quarterback Josiah Boyd and four-star defensive lineman Trison Satele.

Even without Prescott entering the fold, the Ducks have a strong future on the edge. Nasir Wyatt, Elijah Rushing and Tank Jones appear to be the immediate future of the position, while four-star Toa Satele and five-star Rashad Streets headline the position in the 2027 class for the Ducks.
