The Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0) and the Georgia Bulldogs (5-0) are two of the best teams in the SEC and in the country so far this season. Alabama is coming off a massive win against Mississippi State 56-23. Alabama comes into this week's contest as the second-best scoring offense in the entire nation. The Crimson Tide are going head to head against the top offense in the country in Georgia, so something will need to give.
Both Alabama and Georgia's defenses are playing at a high level and one of the two will need to play its best defensive game yet in order to slow down the offenses entering this contest. Both Georgia and Alabama have outstanding quarterbacks going into this one. Keelon Russell is playing as well if not better than any other quarterback in the country. As for Georgia, Gunner Stockton has been tremendous through the first five games.
Alabama has all of the weapons to defeat this ultra-talented Georgia football team. Let's check out three reasons as to why they will.
Reasons Alabama will defeat the Georgia Bulldogs
The special play of quarterback Keelon Russell
Keelon Russell has been great for the Crimson Tide in the first five games this season. Russell has gone 94-of-132 passing for 1,414 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions. Russell has a completion rate of 71.2%. Where Russell could be a difference maker for Alabama is not only his arm but his legs. He is an exceptional athlete and that was displayed last week against Mississippi State. Russell and the Crimson Tide offense looks more explosive than Georgia's.
The Crimson Tide wide receiver core is better
The wide receivers for Alabama have made consistent plays all season led by star wideout Ryan Coleman-Williams. In the biggest game of the season so far for the Crimson Tide, this will be a great time for the core to make big plays on each and every possession. They have the signal caller to deliver the ball, the receiving core just needs to deliver on their end.
Alabama has three receivers with more receiving yardage than Georgia's leading receiver Craig Dandridge. Alabama has three preseason All-SEC defensive backs (includes two first-team selections) that will lock down Georgia's receivers.
Home field advantage at Bryant-Denny
Seating 100,077, Bryant-Denny Stadium is one of the premier venues in all of college football. This is naturally an advantage for Alabama because of the hostile environment especially when a team like the Georgia Bulldogs come to town. Expect Alabama fans to be loud and ready to come out on top of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Georgia won the last meeting 28-7 in the SEC championship game. You can expect one of the games of the year to be one of the best games of the year. Alabama-Georgia holds a lot of weight and Saturday should be a dandy of a game. Georgia has not won at Alabama since 2007 and has struggled historically against the Crimson Tide.
Kickoff between Alabama and Georgia will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
