Ohio State is looking for its June efforts to pay off in a major way. Ryan Day and his crew are looking for some major booms ahead of July 4th, and that could very well get started as soon as today, thanks to a decision date set for priority target Caden Moss.
A 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive lineman out of Jackson, Mississippi, Moss has long been on Ohio State’s radar, and that goes for nearly 30 other schools who have also offered the four-star prospect. The No. 72 player nationally and seventh best offensive tackle per the 247Sports Composite, Moss is a unique athlete, as most would consider his frame a for sure tackle, but he may be best suited along the interior at the next level.
Either way, this is a player that is 100 percent a take if he wants in, and the staff will soon know their fate.
On Thursday, Steve Wiltfong of On3 submitted an RPM in favor of the Buckeyes to land Moss, and this close to his decision timeline, one would have to think that means Ohio State has the best shot at landing his verbal.
Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Oregon are some of the other notable suitors; the Buckeyes would be at six commits along the offensive line if Moss gives them the nod. If so, position coach Tyler Bowen hit this class out of the park and did so with a cherry on top.
Here’s to hoping there’s some good news in Ohio State’s future in the coming hours.
Ohio State sees in-state target choose Colorado Thursday evening
Before an NIL recruiting world, Thursday’s result with in-state target, Kaylon Bailey, would be pretty rare. A Cleveland Glenville product, Ohio State is usually the pick for these recruitments, but as it was seen last night during his announcement via social media, Colorado was the pick.
From here, the Buckeyes will be just fine building the rest of their defensive class, even though they certainly would have liked to be the choice.
A 6-foot-1, 225-pound athlete, Bailey is a hybrid that likely lines up as a standup rusher at the next level. The No. 764 player nationally and 63rd best linebacker in the class per the 247Sports Composite, Ohio State made every intention to have him as a part of their 2027 plans, but they also made it clear that they had a specific number they were comfortable with.
Colorado, the bidding war winner, is a sign that this staff will hold firm on their recruiting stance, and that has to be trusted. A player many pegged to be the next commitment in Ohio State’s class, now the defensive efforts pivot elsewhere.
Quick Hits
Five-star defensive target Marcus Fakatou is one of the players who soon could be giving Ohio State the good news, as his commitment was rumored to be coming in the coming days or week.
Sticking with the theme of the Buckeyes having momentum, last night, Fakatou was pegged to choose Ohio State once again by Alex Gleitman of Rivals. Joining other top insiders such as Greg Biggins, who deals specifically with the West Coast, the signs are looking nothing but positive.
What would be a duo of DJ Jacobs and Fakatou in the same class, Ohio State would have one of the better hauls they’d had in quite some time. Stay up to date with this one. The No. 24 player nationally and the second-best defensive lineman could be giving his pledge at any time.
