Texas A&M coach Mike Elko returns 65% of his 2026 roster, while adding 17 players from the transfer portal, paired with 26 signees from the 2026 recruiting class.
Replacing a record 10 NFL Draft selections won’t be easy, but with redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed returning for his fourth season, which will serve as his second full starting campaign, the Aggies possess enough depth and talent at every position to once again contend for the College Football Playoff.
It’s the returning roster that will make or break Texas A&M’s chances of making it back to the CFP after losing to Miami in the first round last season, and while Marcel Reed was named, eight Texas A&M players were named to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football All-Texas college football teams, including four players earning first-team honors.
On defense, Elko and new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill landed three critical portal commitments from linebacker Ray Coney, cornerback Rickey Gibson III, and junior edge Anto Saka, who is already a favorite among NFL scouts who are excited to see the Maryland native play in the scheme that will finally unlock his elite potential.
After losing four of five 2025 starters along the offensive line, Elko and third-year O-line coach Adam Cushing landed four SEC offensive line starters, including former Alabama starting right tackle Wilkin Formby, while veteran center Mark Nabou serves as the lone returning starter after re-signing with the Aggies this offseason.
