Jake Landry officially appears in the university directory as part of Penn State’s staff for 2026, signaling another move to bring trusted Iowa State personnel into the fold. The former running backs coach becomes the latest piece of Campbell’s behind-the-scenes puzzle as he rounds out his first offseason in charge. The news of the football staff addition was first reported by Lions247.

This hire follows the announcement that Savon Huggins would serve as Penn State’s new on-field running backs coach — meaning Landry will now help out from the analyst role, bringing his offensive mind into the mix.

Landry only spent one season at Iowa State, but it was a good one. Under his watch, Carson Hansen, who transferred to Penn State, racked up 950 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He hit five straight 100-yard games to close out the season, showing off the development that Landry helped foster.

Abu Sama III added 732 yards and five more scores in that same backfield, giving Iowa State a legit one-two punch to lean on down the stretch.

Before his time in Ames, Landry was the offensive coordinator and running backs coach for FCS powerhouse North Dakota State in 2024, helping lead the Bison to a national title. That’s back-to-back seasons of high-level success.

Landry played quarterback at the University of North Dakota and captained the team, but his coaching climb has been even more impressive. He’s made stops as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at St. Thomas, worked with Temple’s quarterbacks as an analyst, and spent time at Northern Illinois, Wisconsin-La Crosse, and Minnesota Duluth in various roles.

He has seen the game from every angle — small schools, FCS powerhouses, Power Five development programs — and now he’s on the biggest stage of his career.

Campbell’s staff isn’t just about name-brand hires. It’s about chemistry, trust, and proven player development. Landry fits that mold and should be a big asset behind the scenes as Penn State reshapes its offensive identity.

With Huggins running the RB room and Landry helping from an analyst standpoint, the Nittany Lions are doubling down on making their backfield a true strength heading into 2026.

This is how you build sustainable success: by surrounding your program with people who know how to win.
