Arkansas has dipped into the transfer portal to add quarterback depth, landing a former Clemson walk-on who is searching for a new opportunity.

Cade Trotter announced Friday that he will continue his college career with the Razorbacks after spending last season in Clemson’s program. A redshirt freshman, Trotter arrived with the Tigers ahead of the 2025 season and spent the year working with the scout team. He did not appear in a game.

Before enrolling at Clemson, Trotter starred at Highland Park High School in Dallas, where he played his prep football in Texas. Although his time on the field was limited in college, Trotter made it clear when he entered the transfer portal that his experience with the Tigers left a lasting impact.

“The opportunity to be a Clemson Tiger has been an honor. My time here has grown me as a man and in my dependence on the Lord. My ambition has been to honor this University and this team with my hard work, consistency, perseverance, and loyalty,” Trotter wrote when announcing his decision on Dec. 31.

In that same message, Trotter explained that his move was motivated by a desire to continue progressing as a quarterback and to put himself in a position to reach his potential.

“My calling as a quarterback is to grow, develop, lead, and execute – all with the idea in mind to pursue excellence, to win, and to make myself and the men around me better,” Trotter said. “At the onset of accepting the opportunity at Clemson, I believed those phases would continue to increase without needing any additional transitions. However, the need for movement in order to reach my full potential in football has become necessary, which is why I have chosen to enter the transfer portal with 4 years of eligibility remaining.

“I am excited for what is ahead and ready to take the right step.”

Trotter now heads to Fayetteville with four years of eligibility still available as he begins the next chapter of his college football journey.
