Former Coastal Carolina quarterback MJ Morris has committed to Texas, per On3’s Pete Nakos. He made four appearances for Coastal Carolina this past season.

In his limited action, Morris completed 35-of-his-60 (58.3%) pass attempts for 304 yards and a touchdown, while throwing four interceptions. Morris transferred to Coastal Carolina ahead of the 2025 campaign.

Morris spent the 2024 season at Maryland, where he made seven appearances and one start. He primarily served as Billy Edwards Jr.‘s backup. Morris completed 36-of-his-61 (59%) pass attempts for Maryland, totaling 350 yards and five TDs, compared to five interceptions.

Morris began his collegiate career at NC State. He made nine appearances and seven starts in two seasons with the Wolfpack. He logged 1,367 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and six interceptions at NC State.

Additionally, he tallied 103 yards and a score in the ground game. While starting behind center in 2023, Morris led the Wolfpack to wins over Marshall, Clemson and Miami. Morris has one year of eligibility remaining.

Morris played high school football at Carrollton (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 491 overall player and No. 28 quarterback in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.

Morris is the 17th player who has committed to Texas this offseason via the NCAA Transfer Portal. At the time of his commitment to the Longhorns, Morris was the No. 91 quarterback in On3’s 2026 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

Texas finished the 2025 campaign with a 10-3 overall record. The team narrowly missed out on its third consecutive College Football Playoff appearance, finishing at No. 13 in the CFP rankings.

Texas defeated Michigan in a convincing 41-27 fashion in the Citrus Bowl. After the victory, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian reflected on his team’s season, while looking forward to the future.

“I am really proud of our football team,” Sarkisian said. “We were just talking in the locker room about the life of a competitor, and the life of a competitor isn’t easy, and there is ups and downs. There is adversity.

“… I am thankful that I got the opportunity to coach them this season, but also gives me a lot of hope into what 2026 is going to look like, because we have a really good football team. We have some more players that are going to join these guys that are going to be poised for a heck of a journey next year.”
