Ohio State is coming off its final spring practice of the spring football season. The spring session ended as it does every year, with the annual spring game which brought in many marquee sports celebrities and former Buckeyes.

The spring game also brought in handfuls of the nation’s top recruits to Ohio Stadium Saturday. Additionally, despite the rainy weather, Buckeye Faithful filled ‘The Shoe’ and made it another electric atmosphere that would rival regular season games for many other college football programs.

Ryan Day and the Ohio State coaching staff are already reaping the rewards of the weekend but even before the spring game kicked off, Ohio State was making the recruiting headlines. Ohio State earned its 10th member of its 2027 recruiting class when four-star offensive tackle Jimmy Kalis (Pittsburgh, PA / Central Catholic) announced his commitment to the Buckeyes.

Ohio State has long been recruiting Kalis and making him a priority in the class. The Buckeyes officially extended him with a scholarship offer in March of 2025 and continued to stay in contact with him. This longstanding relationship helped the Buckeyes when Kalis trimmed his list of suitors down in February.

However, things really picked up this spring when he also made an unofficial visit with the Buckeyes at the end of March. Less than a month later, he is now a member of Ohio State’s recruiting class.

Offensive line has been a group Ohio State is heavily prioritizing this recruiting cycle, especially at the tackle position. The Buckeyes already hold four commitments at offensive tackle in four-star Kellen Wymer and three-stars Mason Wilt and Brody McNeel and now Kalis can add his name to the impressive haul by Ohio State offensive line coach Tyler Bowen.

Kalis is the No. 30 OT in the 247Sports Composite and is the No.312 national recruit. He is also the No. 10 recruit out of Pennsylvania. For more on what Kalis will bring to Ohio State, check out what 247Sports Director of Scouting, Andrew Ivins, had to say on him:

-Tall, battle-tested puncher that shines as a drive/down blocker.
-Tracking to exit high school as a three-year starter in the WPIAL where he has been tasked with moving a number of blue-chip pass rushers.
-Moves with a higher center of gravity, but finds ways to engage the lower half.
-Almost always looking to finish and take defenders into the ground.
-Rather composed in pass sets, but needs to improve lateral slide.
-Bulldozes on double-team calls and frequently engages multiple targets each snap.
-Projects best as a right tackle in a power scheme, but could also find a home on the interior as his game might be better suited for close quarters.
-Should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level that brings a higher floor to the equation.

Ohio State misses out on four-star ATH

It hasn’t all been good news for Ohio State on the recruiting front as the Buckeyes missed on a four-star athlete in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Braylon Calais (Carencro, LA / Cecilia) announced his commitment Monday night when he pledged his services to LSU over the likes of Ohio State, Miami and Texas A&M.

The four-star athlete was being recruited by the Buckeyes as a wide receiver, and though Ohio State is known for developing the position and the team made his top four schools, it always seems like the Buckeyes were always on the outside looking in.

Despite some thinking Ohio State had the early lead in his recruitment, the home state school LSU always looked to be the selection and following a visit to Batton Rouge this last weekend, it was all but solidified.

Ohio State already holds a commitment from five-star WR Jamier Brown and is still a contender for many of the nation’s top recruits at the position like five-star Monshun Sales and four-stars Dakota Guerrant, Eric McFarland III, Blake Wong, and Myles McAfee, among others.
