Nebraska football swooped up an edge rusher from Big Ten representative Minnesota Sunday. But the Cornhuskers later watched an Atlantic Coast Conference school flip one of their own. Wide receiver Kaden Howard becomes the big College Football Recruiting loss for head coach Matt Rhule and company.
Howard instead heads to ACC power Georgia Tech, declaring his intentions Sunday via Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals.
“They’re gonna wake up soon,” Howard told Fawcett when he pivoted to the Yellow Jackets.
The 5-foot-11 Howard would’ve handed Rhule a breakout field stretching option on the perimeter. He originally committed to Nebraska on March 20, turning down Missouri and ACC representative Louisville in the process. Rhule landed a three-star hailing from Miami Palmetto High at the time.
‘I’m going to be a game changer,” Howard told Fawcett at the time of his verbal commitment.
But instead he changes plans and will head to Atlanta for his college career. Howard boosts Georgia Tech’s recruiting class for the 2027 cycle by coming over. But Nebraska takes a key hit here.
The Cornhuskers absorbed one other big hit during the offseason. Past five-star quarterback find Dylan Raiola jumped into the transfer portal. Raiola has since landed at Big Ten rival Oregon where he’ll be the projected No. 2 quarterback behind Dante Moore. But Rhule and the ‘Huskers lost a legacy commit too when Raiola departed from Lincoln.
But Nebraska’s ’27 class features this headliner: Five-star quarterback Trae Taylor, who earned Elite 11 Most Valuable Player honors on May 31. Taylor remains fully verbally committed to the Cornhuskers.
