Collin Klein and the Kansas State Wildcats obtained a great prospect on the defensive side of the ball, earning the commitment of safety Cooper Ohnmacht.

Ohnmacht announced his commitment to the Wildcats on Sunday, per On3 insider Hayes Fawcett. Hailing from Great Bend, Kansas, he chose the Wildcats over the Wisconsin Badgers and the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Ohnmacht stands out as a four-star defender with a 90 score on 247Sports. He ranks first among players from the state of Kansas, 14th among players at his position, and 238th in the entire Class of 2027. His composite score of 0.9027 puts him at second, 20th, and 324th in those respective categories.

What’s next for Kansas State after landing Cooper Ohnmacht

It’s an incredible pickup for Collin Klein and Kansas State to add to the program’s future defense. Cooper Ohnmacht certainly stands out as a potential star for Kansas State, having a lot of production in the secondary.

Ohnmacht shined in his junior campaign, racking up 57 tackles, five interceptions, two Pick-6 scores, and two TFL. In 2024, he obtained 31 tackles, one TFL and one kick return touchdown.

The Wildcats are going through an important transition in their history. Chris Klieman spent the last seven years leading the direction of the program, retiring at the end of the 2025 campaign. With Klein taking over, Kansas State hopes to enjoy solid success with the first-year head coach.

The Wildcats ended 2025 with a 6-6 overall record, going 5-4 in its Big Ten matchups. They finished 10th out of 16 teams in the conference standings, being above the Baylor Bears and the Kansas Jayhawks while trailing the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Iowa State Cyclones.

Kansas State declined appearing in a bowl game due to their coaching change, player injuries, and transfers. This became the first time the Wildcats did not appear in a bowl game since 2020.
