The Texas A&M Aggies are putting themselves in a prime position for an elite 2027 wide receiver. Here is the latest on their massive push.
Texas A&M has been recruiting at an extremely high level over the last several months. Head coach Mike Elko and the Aggies have a great chance at putting together an elite No. 1 2027 recruiting class if they close strong. There are still several top targets that remain on the board.
That includes Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy wide receiver Eric McFarland III, and he is one of the very best offensive recruits in the 2027 class. With the Aggies already holding a commitment from top-100 wide receiver Jaden Upshaw, Texas A&M has several key pass-catching targets still in play. There are none bigger than McFarland, and the Aggies just took a strong step toward landing him.
It was announced over the weekend that McFarland had trimmed his finalists down to three schools. The Aggies did make that cut and were joined by Georgia and Florida in that top group. Texas A&M now has a massive opportunity to make a recruitment statement against multiple top SEC programs.
This is a recruitment that could go either way. There is some positivity on the Texas A&M side, but the next several weeks are vitally important for each. Viewed as an elite offensive weapon in the class, McFarland is the type of playmaker who can have an immediate impact for any program, and the Aggie staff very much understands that.
Eric McFarland III’s recruiting background
McFarland is considered to be at least a four-star and a top-50 overall player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, he currently rates as a five-star, the No. 25 overall player, the No. 5 wide receiver, and the No. 4 player from the state of Florida for the 2026 recruiting class. ESPN is highest on McFarland, ranking at No. 15 overall.
Just like his recruiting rankings, McFarland’s offer list is also elite. Some of his top offers include the Aggies, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Oregon, Ole Miss, Miami, Florida State, Auburn, USC, Missouri, Kansas State, Colorado, Washington, Wisconsin, SMU, UNC, Vanderbilt, Illinois, UCLA, Arizona, BYU, Syracuse, and UCF, among others.
McFarland was originally a member of the 2028 recruiting class but opted to reclassify to 2027 this offseason. As a sophomore in 2025, McFarland led IMG Academy with 29 receptions for 595 yards and 11 touchdowns, an average of 20.5 yards per reception. That was coming off a dynamic freshman campaign, where the 5-8, 177-pound pass catcher managed to haul in 36 receptions for 574 yards and eight scores.
While McFarland might be a diminutive wide receiver, he makes up for his lack of size with big-play ability and impact in space. This is an elite offensive weapon who needs to be accounted for whenever he’s on the field.
