Penn State not expected to land three star safety

While safety has not necessarily been a position of concern for the Nittany Lions, their 2027 recruiting class seems largely devoid of them. With only two safeties committed, some Penn State fans may want more insurance at the position. Unfortunately, with another three star safety ready to commit soon, chances are Penn State fans won't be able to count on it.

Knyair Crumb was never really expected to commit to Penn State. However, after moving his commitment date to tomorrow, June 17, it will be interesting to see which school he chooses. Penn State are after all a top four school along with new rival Virginia Tech, who employs their former head coach. The heavy favorites however, are the Auburn Tigers, with an 86.5 chance to land his commitment, according to Rivals.

What is most interesting about Crumb's hasty decision is that he did not complete his official visit cycle. While he ended up visiting both Auburn the last weekend of May and Virginia Tech the weekend of June 5-7, he missed out on his fourth school, Syracuse, which was scheduled for this weekend. In fact, he didn't even have plans to visit Happy Valley at all, with his last trip to campus coming in March.

For now, Penn State should not be panicking at this position. Signing Jonathan Galette early and Caleb Cooper after last weekend's official visit showed real signs of progress. Crumb was never a top priority and Penn State's main focus should now be on recruiting better at cornerback, after several unfortunate flips.
