Oregon football steals another top recruit from Michigan

New Michigan football coach Kyle Whittingham said at his introductory press conference that he had hoped to fence in the state of Michigan and bring all of the top local talent to Ann Arbor. However, some of the big fish in the mitten state aren't only leaving, but they're leaving for one particular school.

Much like former Detroit (Mich.) King star Dante Moore spurned the Wolverines for UCLA and then Oregon; a few local products are heading elsewhere — at least as of the moment. Michigan had wanted to secure five-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant, but he committed to Oregon (however, the maize and blue are still working on that one). Now, another in-state player has followed suit.

A frequent visitor to the Michigan sideline last season, 2027 Franklin (Mich.) Detroit Country Day four-star tight end Anthony Cartwright III had long been trending to the Wolverines. However, the recruitment cooled off a bit, despite Michigan still having interest. And on Sunday, Cartwright ended up committing to Oregon, as well.

Michigan does have two tight ends committed to the class in Colt Lumpris and Christian Hanshaw. However, in Hanshaw's case, he won't report to Ann Arbor for two years as he will be going on an LDS-sponsored mission trip before reporting to school. Thus, having him in the class shouldn't be much of a deterrent.

We'll see if things change as the season starts, as Michigan could either move on or turn the heat back up.
