Ohio State football stacked multiple College Football Recruiting wins in June. Including landing 6-foot-4 wide receiver Jordan Donahoo. Now coach Ryan Day and company landed an “elite” west coast recruit who had Texas and Georgia in the mix.

No. 2 ranked defensive lineman and five-star Marcus Fakatou placed his hands on a Buckeyes hat and proudly announced his commitment via livestream Monday. OSU lands one of the top defenders from Southern California powerhouse Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth.

Fakatou heads to a place that’s delivered a deep lineup of future NFL pros. Ohio State just produced Arvell Reese as a top 10 NFL Draft pick. Fakatou told Rivals that defensive line coach Larry Johnson’s development of Nick and Joey Bosa, Kenny McDonald, Chase Young and others helped persuade his selection.

He also grew a liking to Johnson’s coaching style on the field, prompting another reason to choose OSU.

“He’s not a big yeller or screamer, he’s more of a teacher,” Fakatou said. “When you mess up, he’s not going scream to cuss at you, he’ll tell you what you did wrong and fix it and I love that about him.”

Fakatou adds Day became heavily involved in his recruitment too, describing him as personable. But Fakatou revealed another major sell about OSU: Other schools envisioned playing him at tackle, whereas OSU wants Fakatou settling for the edge.

OSU once again is putting together a top five recruiting class, this time for 2027. Four-star cornerback Deontay Malone joined the Buckeyes two weeks prior to Fakatou’s decision. OSU holds the No. 5 class per On3/Rivals while 247Sports plugs the Buckeyes at sixth.
