Michigan remains unranked after loss to Minnesota

As another edition of the AP Poll releases, the Michigan football team is out of sight — and it’s to no one’s surprise.

The Wolverines’ embarrassment compounds with dropping their second straight game in Big Ten play, falling 20-14 on the road to Minnesota. Michigan’s offense turned out a disastrous outing, as quarterback Bryce Underwood came skyrocketing back to earth. The Wolverines’ turgid offense wasted a commendable showing from their defense, and the result is being punished by AP voters again.

I don’t even think I need to explain why this isn’t surprising. There isn’t a soul in Michigan’s fanbase who expected the Wolverines to be ranked after one of the most miserable two-week stretches in recent Michigan memory. The bye week, followed by a matchup against a spiraling Penn State, comes at the right time for the Wolverines.

The top five remains unchanged, as Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami and Ohio State, in that order, make up the top of the poll. Florida and Iowa take big slides, as Pittsburgh rockets into the Top 25. Apart from the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes, Indiana, Oregon, USC and UCLA make up the rest of the Big Ten’s representation.
