The 2026 football season for the Auburn Tigers is on the horizon. As we anticipate the start of the season, let’s introduce you to a key member of the 2026 roster.
Sylvester Smith-Reed was one of many “flips” Hugh Freeze executed shortly after he was hired, changing his pledge from Tennessee to Auburn during the 2023 recruiting cycle. Smith-Reed remained loyal to Auburn after the firing of Freeze and is ready to step into a leadership role in 2026.
Smith-Reed enters his junior season as an elder member of the safety room, joining Champ Anthony. As an older member of the room, Smith-Reed has been challenged by Auburn head coach Alex Golesh to step into a leadership role. The new expectation will be challenging for Smith-Reed, but it is a challenge he is willing to accept.
“Coach Golesh talks about it all the time, ‘If you’re leading by example, are you really leading?’ So I’m just stepping out of my comfort zone and being more vocal with the guys. There’s a bunch of young guys who I’ve got the attention of right now, and I can just bring them along with me. And the more people get along with us, man, the better it’s going to be,” Smith-Reed said (via 247Sports).
