Former Notre Dame star lineman part of 2027 Cotton Bowl HOF Class

Former Notre Dame offensive lineman Aaron Taylor was a dominant force during his days in college football in the early 1990s.

Taylor, a college football analyst for the CBS Sports Network, was the 48th Irish player to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He was also a consensus All-American in 1992 and 1993 and a recipient of the Lombardi and Jim Parker Awards, which honors the top offensive lineman every year, at the tail end of his career with the Irish.

Cotton Bowl Classic officials recognized Taylor’s impact on the game Wednesday when they announced that Taylor and five other college football greats will join the Cotton Bowl Classic Hall of Fame as 2027 inductees.

Taylor was with the Fighting Irish when the team beat Texas A&M twice in the 1993 and 1994 Cotton Bowl Classics by 28-3 and 24-21 scores, respectively.

With Taylor’s help at offensive tackle, Notre Dame compiled 439 and 311 yards of total offense in the 1993 and 1994 Classics, respectively.

Taylor will be a member of the Cotton Bowl Classic’s 15th Hall of Fame class. Officials described the ex-Irish standout as “one of the finest offensive linemen to ever wear a Notre Dame uniform.”

“That's a big statement,” the statement noted.

The other 2027 inductees include Rick Baker, the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association (CBAA) president and chief executive officer; Bruce Gadd, CBAA Board of Directors; former head coach Mack Brown (Texas); former quarterback Lance McIlhenny (SMU); and ex-LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu.

The 2027 Cotton Bowl Classic Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony will take place in the spring at AT&T Stadium – the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
