In a Sunday evening announcement, former Oklahoma State cornerback commit Josiah Vilmael revealed that Iowa football has made his top eight schools.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback out of Fort Bend Travis High School in Richmond, Texas, initially committed to Oklahoma State on April 8, but Vilmael chose to decommit from the Cowboys following the firing of head coach Mike Gundy. Iowa offered on Sept. 28.

According to 247Sports, Vilmael is ranked as a three-star recruit, as the No. 149 cornerback in the 2026 class and as the No. 235 prospect in Texas.

Joining Iowa in Vilmael’s final eight are Texas, Maryland, Kansas State, Cal, Baylor, Arizona, and Arizona State.

Since his decommitment in late September, Vilmael has visited Arizona, Baylor, and Iowa. He also has trips planned to Arizona State, Houston, and Kansas State throughout the end of November.

Although 247Sports lists the Longhorns as favorites to land the talented cornerback, the Hawkeyes would certainly love to add his skill set to their defensive backfield. Darion Jones is Iowa’s lone cornerback commit in its 2026 thus far.
