Ohio State 5-star RB target to announce commitment on Wednesday

Ryan Day and the Ohio State coaching staff have had a busy summer when it comes to recruiting. The Buckeyes have already added several commitments in July to its 2027 and 2028 classes, and it is hoping to be far from over.

Quite possibly the biggest remaining target for Ohio State in the current cycle is five-star running back David Gabriel Georges (Chattanooga, TN / Baylor School) who is set to announce his commitment tomorrow, Wednesday July 23.

Entering the eve of his commitment date, Gabriel Georges has a final three schools of Tennessee, Ole Miss and Ohio State. Of these three, it has long been believed that it would be a battle between the Volunteers and Buckeyes for his commitment, and this still looks to be the case.

The blue-chip back took official visits with all three of his finalists and following the visits wrapping up, it was believed that Ohio State was the favorite to land him. However, Tennessee has been determined to land its top target as well.

It is being reported that the Volunteers are willing to throw the kitchen sink at him, including a record-breaking NIL offer.

NIL has taken the college football recruiting landscape for a whirlwind, and because of the massive offer Tennessee is reportedly offering the talented back, the Volunteers have now jumped to the current favorites to land him.

While Tennessee is certainly garnering the momentum in Gabriel Georges recruitment late in the process, Ohio State is not slighting him when it comes to their NIL offer either. Additionally, this is not the first time this recruiting cycle it appeared that Ohio State would lose a recruiting battle due to NIL.

Ohio State’s centerpiece in its 2027 class is five-star defensive edge DJ Jacobs, who committed to the Buckeyes in December of last year. Entering Jacobs announcement, it was well believed that Miami was going to beat out Ohio State for his commitment, in large part to NIL.

However, it was Ohio State that he chose in his commitment.

Now, the saying is lightning never strikes twice, but Ryan Day and the Ohio State football program will not go down without a fight. The Buckeyes also still have time leading up to his announcement. While it certainly appears Gabriel Georges will pledge his services to Tennessee tomorrow, Ohio State is likely still confident in its chances as well.

Gabriel Georges is the No. 2 RB in the 247Sports Composite and he is the No. 10 national recruit. He is scheduled to announce his decision at 5:30 p.m. ET on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.

With 19 verbal commitments already in Ohio State’s 2027 recruiting class, the Buckeyes are starting to put more focus on next year’s cycle.

This additional focus is already paying dividends as Ohio State made the top 12 schools for 2028 four-star safety CJ Craig-James (Birmingham, AL / Parker). Also included in his top schools is Auburn, Florida, California, Miami, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson, Oregon and LSU.

Craig-James is the No. 7 safety in the 247Sports Composite and he is the No. 77 national recruit.
