‘We Like To Have a Lot of Fun’ — LSU Star Whit Weeks Gets 100% Real on HC Lane Kiffin Being His Girlfriend’s Dad

LSU linebacker Whit Weeks and Landry Kiffin, the daughter of head coach Lane Kiffin, have been one of college football’s most talked-about couples since last year. Their relationship first grabbed attention because they started dating while Kiffin led rival Ole Miss.
However, the story took another turn seven months ago when Lane Kiffin became LSU’s head coach, creating a rare player-coach-family dynamic inside the same program. Now, Weeks has finally addressed what it’s actually like having his girlfriend’s father as his head coach.
Whit Weeks Shared Dynamics of His Unique Relationship with LSU Head Coach Lane Kiffin
During the SEC Media Days on Thursday, Weeks made it clear that the relationship never carries over once football takes priority.
“It hasn’t affected my relationship with him at all,” Weeks said. “I know that when we go into that building, everyone in our building has the same mindset and same goals. When you’re in that building, you’re there for work. We like to have a lot of fun up there, too, but at the end of the day it is work.”
The Tigers’ linebacker also explained that both of them understand where to draw the line between football and family life.
“Whenever we leave, it’s cool because he’s my girlfriend’s dad,” he added. “It is what it is when we’re outside the building hanging out and cutting up. It’s cool, but it doesn’t affect anything in the football building.”
That approach has allowed the linebacker to keep his focus on LSU while still enjoying a normal relationship with Landry. Their relationship became public on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, when Landry shared a cozy Instagram photo of herself and Weeks with the caption, “Happy :).”
Weeks also reposted the picture to his Instagram Stories and jokingly wrote, “Nice dude.” Landry played along with the joke by replying, “Thanks bud.”
Now, the situation inside LSU’s program is anything but ordinary. But just like Weeks, Kiffin has also openly shown that the feeling is mutual from the family’s side. In fact, Kiffin spoke positively about Weeks long before arriving in Baton Rouge.
Last September, he praised both the linebacker and the family behind him while making it clear football never entered the conversation.
“Whit is an awesome kid and comes from a great family,” Kiffin said last September on his daughter’s relationship with Weeks as per the USA TODAY Network.
“I’m glad those two are happy together. It has nothing to do with the game itself. It’s a really great family.”
Looking at the footballing side, Weeks is entering his fourth season with LSU carrying major expectations on defense. He already stands as one of Kiffin’s most important players heading intothe new campaign.

Last season, he recorded 31 tackles, including three for a loss, along with one sack across eight games before a lower leg injury sidelined him for five games.
So, Weeks is entering the season with hopes of cementing himself as the SEC’s top linebacker. At the same time, he continues to navigate the rare dynamic of playing for his girlfriend’s father.
But, based on both his comments and Kiffin’s support, he seems to have found the right balance between family and football.
