TCU football is moving closer to its 2026 season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 29. As the Countdown to Kickoff continues, we’ll highlight a former Horned Frog whose jersey number coincided with the number of days remaining until the opener. At No. 7 is former TCU quarterback Kenny Hill!
Hill, who earned the nickname “Kenny Trill” during his days at Texas A&M, transferred to TCU and became the starting quarterback in 2016. He threw for 3,208 yards and 17 touchdowns with 13 interceptions while rushing for 609 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first season as a Frog. TCU finished 6-7 and lost against Georgia in the Liberty Bowl, where Hill was named the TCU Most Outstanding Offensive Player. He accounted for three scores.
Returning for his senior year in 2017, Hill was named a Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award finalist and a Davey O’Brien Award semifinalist. He threw for 2,838 yards and 21 touchdowns on just six interceptions and ran for 265 yards and four touchdowns. The Horned Frogs finished second in the Big 12 and advanced to the Big 12 championship game, falling against Oklahoma. TCU concluded its season with a win over Stanford in the Alamo Bowl, where Hill was named Offensive MVP after throwing for 314 yards and two touchdowns, rushing for 60 yards and a touchdown and catching a 27-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Desmon White.
Hill, who completed over 67% of his passes his senior year, signed with the Oakland (now Las Vegas) Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2018. After a brief stint with the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL, Hill returned to TCU and became a student assistant. He ascended to a graduate assistant role in 2019, offensive analyst in 2020 and quarterbacks coach in 2021. His career continued at California, where he was an offensive quality control coach for two years until taking the co-offensive coordinator and running backs coaching roles at Incarnate Word.
A two-year run at Incarnate Word led to Hill taking the running backs coaching job at Arkansas State earlier this year.
