Since the Washington Huskies joined the Big Ten ahead of the 2024 season, many of the conference's original members have made it a marquee game.
This upcoming season is no different. On Saturday, Nebraska announced its home game against UW on October 31 will be the second annual blackout game, a tradition started back in 2013 under then-coach Bo Pelini and ties back to the program's famed "Blackshirts" days in the 1960s and 1970s.
The Cornhuskers are 0-5 in games since officially labeling the game as a blackout. Fourth-year coach Matt Rhule and his team will wear alternate black uniforms, a fitting combination for Halloween and the first meeting between the two schools since UW moved from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten.
Last year, USC came away with a 21-17 victory over Nebraska at Memorial Stadium on November 1, the closest the Cornhuskers have come since losing 38-31 to Indiana in 2019 and 30-27 to Northwestern in 2015.

"I don't get too involved in the uniforms," Rhule said when asked this week about the UW game being chosen for the blackout.
"But I thought it was a really cool atmosphere last year in the blackout. I thought, kids who came to that game as I've gone back and recruited them, they talk about the energy (and) passion that was in the crowd that night. I don't know if Washington will be a day game, night game; I don't know. But it times up well with Halloween."
Nebraska led 14-6 over coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans at halftime, but managed to score just three points in the final 30 minutes as USC overcame the eight-point deficit to win 21-17 on an early fourth-quarter touchdown run.
UW was welcomed into the Big Ten in 2024 by being chosen as the annual White Out game for Penn State, a 34-6 loss in early November at Beaver Stadium that saw then-freshman quarterback Demond Williams Jr. take over for the entire second half.
The Huskies have a 4-5-1 record all-time against the Cornhuskers. UW's last win in Lincoln came in 1991, a 36-21 victory for the late Don James as the program marched toward a national championship.
