Lane Kiffin’s departure from the Ole Miss Rebels was one of the ugliest splits in college football history. So much so that the program and Kiffin have continuously traded jabs at one another throughout this offseason. On Monday, a new report revealed that the Rebels had the FBI sweep the facilities for bugs after the 51-year-old head coach left for the LSU Tigers.
It’s said that Walker Jones, the executive director of the Grove Collective, admitted on the “Assorted Crackers” podcast that Ole Miss asked the FBI to help them find potential bugs they thought Kiffin may have left in the program’s offices. Jones appears to believe that bugging offices is something he expects from Kiffin after the ugly departure.
“We actually had the FBI come through and walk the building for bugs and for everything,” Jones said. “We knew kind of what was in Baton Rouge, and we knew how they operated. I remember getting on my knees and looking underneath the desk, like checking for, is there some sort of bug in my office? Somebody was like, ‘What are you doing?’ I’m like, ‘You just trust me. You don’t know this guy like I did.'”

Jones went on to reveal that the distrust with Lane Kiffin took a turn after the veteran head coach took half of the Ole Miss staff with him to LSU. However, some of those coaches remained with the Rebels for the playoff run. Jones explained how the program was forced to conduct multiple different meetings because of it, which caused chaos within the organization.
“What people don’t realize too is half the staff was going to LSU, so we literally had to have two different text threads, two different staff meetings,” Jones stated. “We had to ask coaches to leave the room. We had to no hall room conversations, nothing written down, nothing written on the grease boards in the office, because half the staff, we literally were going to be competing against.”
Ole Miss will take on LSU in Week 3 of the regular season. The matchup will be a home game for the Rebels, which means everyone in attendance is sure to give Lane Kiffin a warm welcome.
