Week 0 recap, Week 1 preview: Tuttle, Bridge Creek find win column; Chickasha, Blanchard, Minco look to make statement in season opener

It’s officially football time in Oklahoma.

Week 1 of the 2026 Oklahoma high school football season kicks off this week with a plethora of highly-anticipated matchups, featuring Chickasha, Blanchard and Minco, who are looking to start the season off in the win column.

Hundreds of teams across the state have shed blood, sweat and tears throughout the offseason, planting the seed and working towards their moment under the Friday night lights. And now, the moment is here.

Tuttle Tigers 1-0 (4A Dist. 2)

Week 0: The Tuttle Tigers (1-0) opened the season with a 42-7 win over the Guthrie Bluejays (0-1) Friday at Richardson Family Stadium. Quarterback Parker Madison and running back Darrius Johnson paved the way on offense in their Tuttle debuts, combining for 348 total yards and all six of Tuttle’s touchdowns.

Week 1: Next, Tuttle will travel to New Castle (0-1) for another matchup out of Class 5A. The Tigers’ offense will look to keep things rolling while their defense draws a tougher test in the Racers’ offense, who posted 403 total yards against the defending Class 5A state champions in Week 0.

Bridge Creek 1-0 (4A Dist. 2)

Week 0: The Bridge Creek Bobcats (1-0) found the win column in the season opener for the first time in three years, defeating the McCloud Redskins (0-1) 34-13 Friday at Bobcat Stadium. Holding onto an eight-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, Bridge Creek’s offense was the difference in the final minutes of the game, outscoring McCloud 20-6 in the fourth to more than double its point total through the first three quarters and secure the season-opening win.

Week 1: Next, Bridge Creek will travel to Noble (0-1) for a Class 5A matchup with the Bears. Noble, coming off a 45-6 loss to Cache in Week 0, is the Bobcats’ only matchup above Class 4A this season, and will prove to be a good test ahead of their start in district play.

Dibble Demons 0-1 (2A-II Dist. 2)

Week 0: The Dibble Demons (0-1) couldn’t get anything going in the second half of a 24-16 season-opening loss to the Anadarko Warriors (1-0) Friday at Warrior Stadium. After junior running back Jett Norman returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a score, the Demons had no answers for Anadarko. Despite punching in a four-yard rushing score in the second quarter, the Demons gave up 18 unanswered points en route to a Week 0 loss on the road.

Week 1: Next, Dibble will host Minco (0-0) in its home opener at Dibble Stadium. The Demons will look for a strong start and an even stronger finish on their home field against the Bulldogs, who will be opening their season in Week 1.

Chickash Fightin’ Chicks (4A Dist. 2)

Week 1: The Chickasha Fightin’ Chicks will look to make a statement in Week 1 when they host Woodward Friday at Memorial Stadium. The Fightin’ Chicks haven’t won their season opener since 2022, but head coach Steve Huff and a reloaded Chickasha roster are looking to flip the script.

Senior quarterback Javier Nieto will lead the Fightin’ Chicks’ offense for a third season, surrounded by a talented group of running backs and wideouts. Senior defensive linemen Marley Scott, RJ Ashong and senior linebacker Lane Jay will man the Chickasha defense.

Blanchard Lions (4A Dist. 2)

Week 1: The Blanchard Lions have their sights set on Friday for a Week 1 matchup on the road at Clinton (1-0). Blanchard is not only looking to make a return to the Class 4A playoffs under new head coach Brock Wardlaw, it’s looking to win the whole thing.

Wardlaw is turning to sophomore transfer quarterback Ace Guthery to lead the Lions’ offense this season. Guthery is a dynamic athlete who can attack defense through the air and on the ground. The Lions’ defense, which Wardlaw knows will be a pivotal side of the ball early in the season, will be led by senior defensive lineman Sam Miller, who adds much-needed experience on the defense.

Minco Bulldogs (Class A-I Dist. 2)

Week 1: The Minco Bulldogs’ road to a Class A-I state championship will begin at home Friday against the Dibble Demons (0-1). The Bulldogs are under new leadership with the hiring of Kevin Witt, who knows what it takes to hoist a gold ball.

Witt helped lead the Jones Longhorns to the Class 2A-I state championship in 2025 and is looking to bring that championship pedigree to Minco. Sophomore quarterback Eli Russell will be trusted to take over the offense, alongside a plethora of new starters. Defensively, Minco will be leaning on senior linebacker Cashton Johnson and senior safety Landon Wright.
