Should You Feel Bad About What Happened To Kansas State Wildcats Mascot Saturday?

Everyone in attendance at Bill Snyder Family Stadium Saturday was excited for every touchdown the Kansas State Wildcats

Well, almost everyone.

It wasn't as fun for the K-State mascot named Willie The Wildcat. It was forced to do 394 push-ups during the 71-3 victory against Nicholls. Willie got in quite the workout, causing the performance to draw lots of attention on the Internet.

The mascot can blame the impressive showing by Wildcats for the sore upper body. In the first game under coach Collin Klein, K-State put on a show. It was just five points off the school's single-game record. The Wildcats were up 36-3 at halftime before scoring 35 in the second half.

The game saw quarterback Avery Johnson throw three touchdowns, surpassing Will Howard for the school record. Six different Wildcats had rushing touchdowns. Special teams player Brandon White had a huge punt return for a touchdown that electrified the crowd in the second quarter. Running back Rodney Fields, who was a surprise starter, had 101 rushing yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats (1-0) can now turn their attention to the Washington State Cougars, who visit Manhattan Saturday. It was the perfect way for Kansas State to begin the Klein era. He is a former K-State standout quarterback who is one of the most beloved players in school history.

After finishing a disappointing 6-6 last year, Klein has the chance to revive the program. Even though they were picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 by the league media, the Wildcats could surprise a lot of folks this year.

Johnson is back for his third season as the full-time starter. The offense features an impressive collection of running backs that also includes Joe Jackson and tight end Garrett Oakley is getting plenty of interest from NFL scouts.

The fact the Wildcats don't fave any of the top three teams in the Big 12 (Utah, Texas Tech and BYU) is another reason why so many are considering them a sleeper.
