Action News confirmed that Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell is under investigation, with a source telling the outlet the inquiry began several weeks ago at the request of Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s administration. That detail matters: the review originated from within the same administration Caldwell serves, rather than from an external watchdog or law enforcement agency.
The work is being handled by former state Attorney General Christopher Porrino alongside partners at Lowenstein Sandler LLP.
