Did Georgia rise in coaches poll after blowout of week 1 opponent?

Kirby Smart and Georgia football are ranked No. 2 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll released Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The Bulldogs moved up a spot after pummeling Tennessee State 63-3 in their season opener Saturday in Sanford Stadium and No. 2 Oregon getting a close call in a 34-27 win over Boise State. The Ducks fell to No. 6.

Ohio State remained No. 1 and No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 5 Indiana round out the top 5.

This is Georgia's highest ranking in the coaches' poll since it was No. 2 on Dec. 7, 2025, after beating Alabama in the SEC championship game.

Georgia (1-0) returns home to play Western Kentucky (0-1) Saturday Sept. 12 at 12:45 p.m. on the SEC Network.

LSU jumped up from No. 13 to No. 8 in the latest poll after routing Clemson 51-10.

Smart was happy with the home crowd in the opener on a scorching day with a kickoff temperature of 101 degrees.

"I thought to come out in 120 degree feels like, whatever heat index, you can't ask everybody to do that," he said. "Look at some of the other programs around the country. How many do they have in that heat? We don't have that problem here. Our fans love it. Our fans love coming to see each other. And they'll be here next week too."
