College Football Star Pulls Off Infamous Antonio Brown Kick Move on Defender

No. 17 SMU beat UC Davis 56-10 on Saturday in Dallas, and the score was never really in doubt. Kevin Jennings threw for 337 yards and a career-high five touchdowns while playing only the first half, and the Mustangs led 42-0 at the break in 100-degree heat with a heat index of 107.
But the play everyone is talking about came from wide receiver Yannick Smith, and it has SMU’s own social media team making some bold comparisons to former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown.
Yannick Smith earns Antonio Brown comparison after big play
Yannick Smith joined SMU after spending the previous two seasons at East Carolina. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound wide receiver played 11 games in 2025. He finished the season with 44 receptions for 583 yards and five touchdowns. He also had two games with more than 100 receiving yards.
Smith also had a good 2024 season at East Carolina. He played in 13 games and caught 25 passes for 434 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 17.4 yards per reception that season. Those numbers highlighted his ability to produce explosive gains.
Smith made an immediate impact during his first season at SMU. In the season opener against Florida State Seminoles, he caught five passes for 107 yards and one touchdown. His longest catch went for 79 yards. His performance strengthened SMU’s receiving attack early in the season.
Smith followed that performance with a standout touchdown against UC Davis on Saturday. He caught a pass from Kevin Jennings and turned it into a 44-yard touchdown. The touchdown came late in the second quarter and capped SMU’s first-half scoring in the 56-10 victory. Near the goal line, Smith tried to jump over two defenders before reaching the end zone.
As Smith approached the goal line, his foot appeared to graze a defender near the head area. The commentator reacted to the play by saying, “…end zone. Look at this! Kicks him in the face! Oh my goodness! And the balance to stay up…” Smith stayed on his feet after the contact and finished the touchdown.
SMU later posted the video on social media with the caption, “ANTONIO BROWN IS THAT YOU.” The post referenced the acrobatic finish that helped make the touchdown memorable.

Smith’s touchdown added another highlight to his early success at SMU. His strong start has given the Mustangs another reliable option in the passing game. The social media post also put in major discussion about Antonio Brown’s career.
SMU’s Kevin Jennings’ Heisman campaign off to a strong start
The Smith touchdown was one highlight in a dominant offensive performance. Jennings now has 767 passing yards and eight touchdowns through two games, breaking Ben Hicks’ decade-old SMU record for total yards in the process. Derrick McFall added a 52-yard touchdown catch and a 40-yard run, while Theo Melin Ohrstrom caught two scoring passes.
The game was shortened in the second half by agreement between the two teams, with SMU holding a 42-0 lead at the break and the temperature showing no signs of dropping. The Mustangs still put up 547 total yards against 233 for UC Davis.
SMU is now 2-0 heading into a matchup with No. 24 Louisville on September 19 in their second ACC game of the season.
