Each week throughout the college football regular season, SyracuseRoundtable will bring you the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) power rankings. The rankings will help give a clearer picture as to how the top teams in the conference stack up against one another. In December, the top two teams will compete in Charlotte, N.C., not for just the conference title, but a berth in the College Football Playoff.

So, where does Syracuse football rank now after losing to California in Week 2? And remember, the Orange in action again on Thursday against Pitt, so they'll have a chance to move around again after that showdown.

No. 1 Miami

The Hurricanes were the most impressive team in Week 1, dominating conference rival Stanford 45-6. And that domination didn't stop in Week 2, as the Hurricanes rolled over Florida A&M 77-7. Malachi Toney looks like an early Heisman Trophy favorite.

No. 2 SMU and No. 3 Louisville 

Preseason expectations have these two teams as the most likely teams to face off against Miami in December in the ACC title game. SMU played in the title game in 2024, losing on a game winning field to Clemson. Both teams enter the contest nationally ranked. SMU is listed as a 2.5 point favorite in a majority of sportsbooks. 

No. 4 Virginia

The Cavaliers stay steady at No. 4 after crushing Norfolk State 59-3. Virginia will take on the Big XII's West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday. 

No. 5 Virginia Tech 

Led by new head coach James Franklin, the Hokies have outscored their opponents 117-24 in their first two games. Virginia Tech will take on the Big Ten's Maryland Terrapins Saturday night. Maryland is coming off a dominant victory against UConn.

No. 10 Pittsburgh

No. 12 Wake Forest

No. 13 Georgia Tech

The Orange drop nine spots after blowing a home lead to the Golden Bears. California ranked at No. 14 the previous week. Syracuse had three interceptions on offense and recorded double-digit penalties, all of which need to be cleaned up if they are going to beat Pitt (2-0).

No. 16 Stanford 

No. 17 Boston College 

What ACC matchups are taking place this weekend?

Syracuse and Pittsburgh will start Week 3 ACC action on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. ET. SyracuseRoundtable will have coverage throughout the day, including post game coverage. 

On Friday night, the Miami hosts the 2-0 Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

North Carolina travels to take on Clemson at noon ET. 

Duke hosts Stanford at 4:00 p.m. ET. 

And as mentioned previously, a spot in the ACC title game could be determined this weekend when SMU travels to take on Louisville.
