Lane Kiffin showered with boos, expletive-laden chants in 'College GameDay' interview

Within two seconds of Lane Kiffin appearing on the video board on the "College GameDay" set in a white LSU shirt, the boos began.

And that was just the beginning.

In the hours before Kiffin returns to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to face off against the Mississippi program he coached the previous six seasons, he joined "GameDay" virtually from what appeared to be a hotel ballroom for an interview about one of the most eagerly anticipated games of the 2026 college football season.

The thousands of Ole Miss fans gathered in The Grove didn't wait long to let their former coach know how they felt about him. Kiffin was almost immediately greeted with boos before chants of "[Expletive] Lane Kiffin" echoed from the crowd, which continued for a handful of minutes.

Later on in the five-minute hit, fans shifted their focus to a different expletive, referring to Kiffin in chant as the orifice out of which creatures defecate.

Only 10 months ago, Kiffin was an icon to many of the people assembled in Oxford, Mississippi on Saturday, leading Ole Miss to a 55-19 mark in six seasons. His final team went 11-1 in the 2025 regular season, earning it a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Before the playoff began, though, Kiffin left the Rebels for rival LSU, where he agreed to a seven-year, $91 million contract. Without Kiffin, and under the watch of new head coach Pete Golding, Ole Miss won two games to advance to the playoff semifinals, where it lost, 31-27, to eventual national runner-up Miami.

Kiffin's first LSU team enters Saturday's Week 3 matchup with the Rebels at 2-0, with lopsided wins over Clemson and Louisiana Tech that have put it at No. 7 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Ole Miss, meanwhile, is two spots behind at No. 9 and features arguably the best quarterback-running back pairing in college football in Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy, both of whom stayed with the Rebels rather than follow Kiffin.

With fans jeering in the background, Kiffin downplayed the emotional resonance of Saturday night's game.

"It's not about me," Kiffin said. "Both teams have great players, great coaches. I have a lot of respect for their programs. This is about the players performing really well tonight in a really awesome matchup."
