Rutgers football vs USC live updates, score and analysis

PISCATAWAY – Before the current Rutgers football takes the field for its game against No. 12 USC, fans will get a chance to honor a Scarlet Knights team from the past.

Twenty years after its 11-2 season, which included beating then-No. 3 Louisville and rising to No. 7 in the rankings, members of the 2006 Rutgers football team will be on hand at SHI Stadium for a pre-game celebration.

That team remains the best in program history.

Coach Greg Schiano said it feels like those 20 years have flown by, but he was looking forward to seeing them and catching up with his former players.

“That’s why you coach, right? When you get to see their kids and their wives, and their lives and hear about what they’re doing and how they’ve taken what they’ve learned here and put it to use out in the real world,” Schiano said. “How quick is that? 20 years, feels like yesterday.”

Then they’ll all get a chance to see if the current Scarlet Knights can make the day more memorably by pulling off an upset against the Trojans.

That’ll be a major challenge for Rutgers, which is coming off losses to UMass and Boston College to start the season.

Dylan Lonergan is available for Rutgers football

After missing the Boston College game with an injury he suffered the previous week against UMass, QB Dylan Lonergan is not on the availability report for today's game vs. USC.

Defensive back Kevin Levy, however, is out for Rutgers.
