Grading Georgia after Arkansas game: What earned an A, what needs work

Georgia handled Arkansas with a 45-17 victory Saturday in its first road game of the season.

The Bulldogs have coasted in each game during their 3-0 start.

There are still areas that Kirby Smart and his coaching staff will clean up with No. 21 Oklahoma coming to town next week.

Grades

Offense grade: B+

Georgia set the tone on the day by running the ball on five of its six plays in its opening scoring drive with Gunner Stockton hitting Lawson Luckie for 33 yards. The Bulldogs rushed for more than 250 yards and had four rushing touchdowns, three from Chauncey Bowens. Right tackle Juan Gaston gave up first quarter and third quarter sacks.

Defense grade: B+

Georgia got a fourth-down stop with pressure from Valdin Sone and Khalil Barnes in coverage on an incomplete pass. Justin Williams recorded his first career sack after the Bulldogs gave up a big pass play on the previous third down. Kyon Jones had a late hit out of bounds. The Bulldogs had three sacks led by two from Raylen Wilson. Georgia's starting unit allowed only a field goal but the Bulldogs gave up two touchdowns in the final 8:30.

Special teams grade: A-

London Humphreys blocked a third-quarter punt. Peyton Woodring converted his only field goal try of 38 yards. Drew Miller averaged 43.4 yards on two punts. The Razorbacks only kick return put them at the 25 to start the drive.

Coaching grade: B+

Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo was content to let the Bulldogs maul Arkansas up front and stay on the ground mostly. Glenn Schumann’s defense held Arkansas to 300 yards and a field goal and two touchdowns in the final 8:30.

Game MVP: Raylen Wilson

We could give this to Gunner Stockton for a third straight game but let’s give this to the senior linebacker for his two sacks and a forced fumble. He had three total tackles.

Overall team grade: B+

This game played out on the scoreboard about how most thought it would. Arkansas looks like it will have a long season. Georgia coaches will be able to point to areas that need improvement but do it in a comfortable win. It says something about Georgia's high standard that we don't give an A to a 28-point road win.
