‘May Get Fired Before the Season Over,’ ‘Coaching Career Is Soon to Be Over’ — Calls Mount for Arkansas to Fire HC Ryan Silverfield After Georgia Blowout

Three games into Ryan Silverfield’s tenure, patience in Fayetteville already looks dangerously thin. The Arkansas Razorbacks followed a 43-10 loss to the Utah Utes with another ugly result Saturday, falling 45-17 at home to the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs after trailing 38-3 in the fourth quarter.
Georgia piled up 464 yards, including 254 on the ground, while Arkansas managed only 17 rushing yards on 20 attempts. The Razorbacks are 1-2 in Silverfield’s first season, and frustration after two straight blowout losses quickly turned toward the man Arkansas hired less than 10 months ago.
Calls Grow for Arkansas to Move on from Ryan Silverfield
Onefan wrote, “Ryan Silverfield may get fired before the season over in Arkansas Gaaaah.”
Another supplied reaction was even more final, warning that Silverfield’s “coaching career is soon to be over.” Those are fan calls rather than reporting that Arkansas has decided to make a coaching change, but the temperature around the program has clearly risen.
The anger was not limited to Saturday’s play-calling or execution. Anotherfan wrote, “The hiring process is the part that Arkansas fans and media are frustrated most about this football program. Let’s be honest. Not a lot of people expected Ryan Silverfield to be an SEC head coach.”
Oneuser added, “Hiring Ryan Silverfield was certainly a choice.”

Silverfield arrived from Memphis after Arkansas went 2-10 in 2025. His hiring had already drawnhot-seat scrutiny before he coached his first game, despite a 50-25 record at Memphis that included two 10-win seasons and six straight bowl-eligible campaigns.
In PFN’s latest 2026Offense Impact rankings, updated Sept. 13, Georgia carried a 92.1 score, No. 3 nationally. Arkansas never found a way to slow that unit once the Bulldogs established control.
Rough Start Revives Bobby Petrino Debate
The most predictable part of a rough coaching start is the return of the coach who did not get the full-time job. Onefan wrote, “Should’ve kept Petrino and gave him a decent DC,” referring to Bobby Petrino, who served as Arkansas’ interim coach after Sam Pittman was fired last season.
The results are giving that argument oxygen. Arkansas beat the North Alabama Lions 31-14 in the opener, but its first two games against ranked Power Four opponents have ended in losses by a combined 61 points. Against Georgia, the Razorbacks did not score their first touchdown until 8:30 remained, when Sutton Smith cut the deficit to 38-10.
Silverfield had already acknowledged the heat before kickoff. Earlier in the week, hetold reporters that people had tried to “write my obituary” throughout his coaching career and insisted he planned to keep improving.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane come to Fayetteville next Saturday. After two straight blowouts, what looked like a routine non-conference game suddenly carries considerably more weight for a first-year coach whose honeymoon period appears to have disappeared almost immediately.
