Sep. 19—WSU RB Maxwell Woods
The redshirt sophomore showed elusiveness, vision and big-play ability, breaking off five runs of more than 10 yards — including a 45-yard scamper out of the wildcat formation in the first quarter that set up a touchdown. Woods finished with 116 yards on 11 carries, averaging 10.5 yards per attempt. He also provided a few nice plays on check-down passes, picking up 20 yards on three receptions. It was Woods' second-highest yardage output of his WSU career, trailing only his 152 yards from scrimmage last year in his breakout performance against Utah State in the Cougars' Famous Idaho Potato Bowl win.
WSU RB Kirby Vorhees
The Cougs had two 100-yard rushers in the same game for the first time in 21 years. Not to be outdone by his backfield teammate, Vorhees had his most productive performance in a WSU uniform, gaining 109 yards on nine carries with his first two touchdowns of the year. The redshirt junior punched in an 8-yard TD run early in the game after Woods' explosive carry. Late in the third quarter, Vorhees raced through an outside gap and went untouched for a 58-yard TD, putting WSU up 35-7. It was Vorhees' first 100-yard rushing game since 2024, when he played for South Dakota State, and the second of his career.
