Week 4 of the college football season features heavyweight matchups from top to bottom in both the SEC and the Big Ten, drawing a lot of noise around where ESPN’s College GameDay will head next Saturday morning. In the end, the biggest pregame show in the sport decided on Knoxville, TN, for a highly-anticipated clash between No. 15 Tennessee and No. 1 Texas.
This comes after GameDay spent week 3 in Oxford for Lane Kiffin’s return to Ole Miss. The Rebels got the best of their old coach in that game as Ole Miss made a late stand in the red zone to get a 32-24 win over LSU.
Tennessee is off to a strong start in 2026 despite starting a true freshman quarterback in Faizon Brandon. Josh Heupel’s Vols are 3-0 on the young season with dominant wins over Furman, Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State. Now, they begin SEC play with a difficult test against the top-ranked team in the country.

On the other side, Texas is the No. 1 team in the nation, but Steve Sarkisian and company have only really looked the part for one quarter this season. After storming back to steal the game in the fourth quarter against Ohio State in Week 2, the Longhorns were lethargic and sloppy in a 30-6 win over UTSA on Saturday night.
In that game, Arch Manning finished just 17-of-33 for 164 yards and two touchdowns while also picking up 50 yards on the ground. Thankfully, the Texas defense only allowed 142 total yards and the running game got going, so there was no trouble, but the Longhorns will have to play much better in Knoxville to avoid the upset.
Brandon has looked poised behind center for Tennessee so far this season, but he will be facing a massive step up in competition against a Texas defense that has a ton of talent and features numerous NFL starters such as edge rusher Colin Simmons. He will have to be at his best for the Vols to get the win.
Texas vs. Tennessee will kick off at noon EST on Saturday.
