Brent Venables shares positive injury update on DT David Stone

Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables shared a positive update on defensive tackle David Stone Tuesday night, according to Brody Lusk of Sooners Illustrated. Stone was injured during Monday's practice, but the injury does not appear to be as severe as fans feared.

"David Stone, I know it was reported that he was hurt at practice last night," he said. "I guess it was out there that he was on offense, but he wasn't on offense when he got banged up. He ran his knee into a scout-team player during a jog-through and it kind of popped out.

"We'll see where he's at. The X-rays were positive, I guess, in reporting the news, so that's all I'm doing — reporting the news. But he said his pain was about a two out of 10 right now, so we'll kind of go from there."

Stone is one of the best defensive linemen in the country and a key part of Oklahoma's defense, which has carried them to a 2-1 start to the season. He has 12 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and 0.5 tackles for loss in three games this season.

Oklahoma is set to open SEC play this weekend on the road against the Georgia Bulldogs. The game is set to start at 2:30 p.m. CT and will air on ESPN.
