Georgia footballfaces Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 26, for the first time since the Sooners joined the SEC and just the second time ever between two of the nation’s top 10-winningest programs.

Sooners coach Brent Venables has gone up against Georgia three times as defensive coordinator at Clemson, most recently in 2021 in Charlotte.

The Bulldogs won 10-3, but their only touchdown came on an interception return.

“They were just like his teams always are,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “Extremely physical, fundamentally sound. Their ability to get on and off blocks and anticipate what you’re doing offensively is at an elite level.”

Venables twice went up against Mike Bobo in his first stint as offensive coordinator with Georgia.

Clemson won 38-35 in 2013 and Georgia turned the tables in a 2014 game, 45-21.

This time the Sooners, No, 24 in the coaches poll, face a second-ranked Bulldogs team at Sanford Stadium in Athens.

“It’s an offense to me that has just grown through the years,” Venables said. “They’re incredibly efficient and they’ve got an answer for everything that you do both in the run, the passing game. They know how to stress you, but the best thing they do is they just execute at a high level no matter who’s out there on the field. Their ability to execute, control the line of scrimmage and just have excellent game control, staying on schedule is something they do really well.”
