Deion Sanders says Colorado is better than the score shows after another loss

Colorado lost its second consecutive game today, and afterward head coach Deion Sanders said he's struggling to figure out why his team's results aren't what they should be.

"We're better than this. It seems as though we're better than our opponents, but the score does not dictate that. And that's the fascinating thing, we've got to find out why," Sanders said.

With Colorado struggling at halftime, Sanders benched starting quarterback Julian Lewis and replaced him with Isaac Wilson. Lewis was a highly touted recruit out of high school last year but so far hasn't lived up to expectations at Colorado. Wilson, who transferred to Colorado this year after two years at Utah, is the brother of Saints quarterback Zach Wilson.

Lewis was 11-for-16 for 75 yards when he was benched. Wilson played slightly better, completing 12 of 25 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.

Sanders has still never found a quarterback as good as his son, Shedeur, who started for Deion for two years at Jackson State and then two more years at Colorado. Overall, Deion's college coaching record is 36-14 with Shedeur as his quarterback and 9-15 without his son.

This year, Colorado is 2-2, and the schedule only gets tougher, with No. 11 Texas Tech and No. 15 Utah the next two opponents on the schedule. Sanders has an uphill battle ahead of him to get his team turned around.
