Live Game Thread: Mizzou Opens SEC Slate in Starkville

No. 19 Missouri Tigers football is embarking on a treacherous nine-game conference stretch, beginning with No. 24 Mississippi State tonight. 

Coming into the season, the SEC opener against the Bulldogs appeared to be convenient. Now we’re three weeks into the season, and Mississippi State has provided plenty of reasons to be feared. 

Spearheaded by a current Heisman candidate in quarterback Kamario Taylor, Mizzou will have to contain an offense that leads the conference in total yards.

Taylor has connected with wideout Anthony Evans lll 20 times this season for 294 yards – good for second in the SEC – and two touchdowns. Former Tiger Marquis Johnson will also be a name to watch as he searches for a revenge game of sorts. He has seven catches for 136 yards and a touchdown this season. 

Despite the higher ranking, the Tigers are a +4.5 underdog in this matchup. If they can block out the cowbells and all the other noise to rob a win in Starkville, people will all but forget about a worrisome Week 3.
