Steve Sarkisian fires back at soft accusation

“We win big games around here.”

Head coach Steve Sarkisian made a strong statement on Saturday after his No. 1 Texas Longhorns went into Neyland Stadium in Knoxville and came away with a 20-17 victory over the No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers that was hardly aesthetically pleasing down the stretch, but kept the Longhorns undefeated following the SEC opener.

Texas notched 10 sacks and held the prolific Tennessee rushing attack to 70 yards on 44 carries (1.6 yards per carry) in the wake of The Athletic publishing anonymous quotes on Friday from a coach who had played the Longhorns earlier this season.

“They’ve got everything,” the coach said. “They look the part. They’re fast. They can bend. But they just don’t have an edge to ’em. They’re soft everywhere.”

Sarkisian fired back after the victory.

“I think they had eight guys get carted off, so I’m not sure who wrote the article today and what coach said we weren’t a physical football team,’” Sarkisian said. “They might want to write another article.”
