Rice is 1-2 this season, with a win over Houston Christian (31-3) and losses to Notre Dame (52-0) and Western Michigan (28-21). In the loss against Western Michigan, quarterback Jacurri Brown, a two-way threat, had an effective game through the air and on the ground. Brown connected on 11 of 18 passes for 121 yards and one touchdown, while rushing the ball 23 times for 128 yards and one touchdown. On the season, Brown now has 203 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air, and 258 rushing yards and one touchdown through the ground.
Fresno State, meanwhile, is 2-1 this season, with a 39-0 loss against USC and a 49-3 win over Sacramento State and a 26-10 win over San Jose State. In the win over the Spartans, quarterback Jayden Mandal connected on 15 of 29 passes for 186 yards and one touchdown. Bryson Donelson ran the ball nine times for 57 yards and one touchdown, while Josaiah Freeman caught six passes for 95 yards and one touchdown in the win.
