Alabama Football 2026 vs South Carolina: Second Half Open Thread

What a half! Alabama heard all of the criticism about a lack of “fast starts” this week and did their best to correct at. It didn’t look great at first, with the Tide defense giving up a 50+ yard run on the first play of the game, then the offense going 3 and out on the first drive. But after that, it was utter domination. The Tide offense scored on 4 straight drives, with Keelon Russell dropping bombs down the field the whole half. Lotzeirr Brooks scored on a 70-yard bomb, then Ryan Coleman-Williams scored back to back drives on explosive passing plays. Finally, Josh Ford caught an insane one-hander in the back of the endzone to cap off an exceptional half of football from the Alabama offense. EJ Crowell and Trae’Shawn Brown both had big explosive run plays as well.

Defensively, the Alabama defense gave up a few too many yards the first couple of drives, but ultimately held firm each time. Red Morgan got a pick-six, too. It wasn’t perfect, though, as Dijon Lee fell down near the end of the half to give up a long touchdown uncontested. It’s a worrying trend from him.

All in all, though, a 35-10 lead against an SEC team is exceptional, and is the best 1st half of offensive football we’ve seen in the Kalen DeBoer era. And if Keelon Russell doesn’t just implode in the second half, there’s going to be a LOT of national chatter about him this week.
