The Oklahoma Sooners 2027 recruiting class is one of the best in the country. Rivals, ESPN, and 247Sports all rank the Sooners' class in the top 7 in football.
One of the reasons Oklahoma’s 2027 class is doing well in the rankings was put on display this weekend. That’s where Three-star athlete Jaiden Fields put together an outstanding performance.
Fields broke Hutto’s (Texas) High School’s single-game receiving touchdown record as the Hippos bested Vista Ridge 68-10 at Hutto Memorial Field on Friday. The Oklahoma commit dazzled in all three phases of the game but really shined on offense. He caught 11 passes for 201 yards and seven touchdowns in the win.
One of the top plays from his record-setting performance on Friday night came on a jet-sweep reception near midfield. Fields took the touch pass, cut upfield, ran over a defender, and then sped to the opposite side of the field, untouched, for a 53-yard touchdown.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound athlete committed to the Sooners in July. He chose the Sooners over offers from Texas A&M, Stanford, SMU, and TCU. Fields is a two-way player who was recruited as both a wide receiver and a safety. Ultimately, Oklahoma will have him join Brandon Hall’s safety group when he gets to Norman. And this year, his coverage skills have already been on display. Through six games this season, he’s already snagged three interceptions and returned them for a touchdown.
Fields checks in as the No. 21 overall athlete and No. 88 player in his home state of Texas in Rivals recruiting rankings. ESPN ranks him No. 44 overall, while 247Sports ranks him No. 50 overall in the 2027 class.
Fields’ Hutto Hippos are 5-1 this season.
