Star college football commit dies in tragic shooting

The college football community was struck with some heartbreaking news after it was confirmed that four-star college football recruit Chris Wilson was tragically killed in a shooting.
Wilson, a four-star EDGE prospect out of Muncie, Indiana, who was committed to play for the West Virginia Mountaineers, was killed in the early morning hours on Monday.
‘Deep sadness’
On Monday morning, the Muncie Police Department responded to a report of a shooting around 3 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found 17-year-old Wilson, who had been shot multiple times inside a car.
Yorktown Community Schools officials confirmed that Wilson was killed in the shooting, issuing a statement on the heartbreaking incident
“It is with deep sadness that I share that Chris Wilson, a senior at Yorktown High School, was killed in a shooting in Muncie early this morning. His family has given us permission to share this news with you,” YCS wrote in a statement to the staff at Yorktown High School, via WTHR.
“Many of you knew Chris as a student, an athlete, and a young man who had big dreams. This is a tremendous loss for his family, his teammates, and our entire school community.
“Muncie Police are leading the investigation. Yorktown Police Chief Walthour has confirmed there is no threat to our students or our school. I know there will be questions, but we have very few details at this time, and I ask that you not speculate or share information beyond what is in this email.”
‘Heartfelt thoughts and prayers’
Wilson, a four-star prospect, committed to West Virginia in June. He was rated as the No. 269 overall prospect in the country in the 247Sports Composite ratings and the No. 27 player at his position.
West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez issued a statement on Wilson’s tragic death on Monday afternoon.
“The West Virginia Football program is heartbroken by the news of the tragic loss of Chris Wilson Jr. this morning,” Rodriguez wrote. “We really enjoyed getting to know Chris during the recruiting process. The WVU football program sends its heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Chris’ family in this difficult time.”
