South Carolina has lost three straight games. In their second of the three losses, South Carolina was dominated by Alabama, as the Tide won the game 49-18. In the contest, star edge rusher Dylan Stewart punched an Alabama player. This led to head coach Shane Beamer suspending Stewart indefinitely. On Monday, Beamer gave an update on the suspension of Stewart.
Now, Beamer is giving another update on Stewart, per Alex Byington of On3.
“He was at practice today,” Beamer told reporters Tuesday. “His status for Saturday has not been determined. That will be determined as we go throughout the week.”

The suspension was supposed to be indefinite. Stewart served the one-game suspension levied by the SEC last Saturday, as South Carolina fell to Kentucky 35-34 in overtime. The suspension levied by South Carolina was not only about the punching incident. Stewart was openly arguing with coaches, including Beamer. In one incident, Beamer attempted to pull Stewart out of the game, but Stewart walked off. Beamer was forced to physically walk him to the sideline.
Previously, athletic director Jeremiah Donati released a statement about Stewart and his actions.
“Our expectation at South Carolina, is that our student-athletes conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity at all times,” Donati said in a statement Sept. 28. “Keeping one’s composure, even in the most competitive environments, is our standard. That standard was not met in this instance and we support the league’s decision along with our head coach’s decision regarding the current disciplinary measures enacted in this case.”
Beamer has previously said that any decision on the future of Stewart would be his alone. The next indication of his status could come on Wednesday night, when the first SEC availablility reports come out.
