The Winning Smart Victory Post #123
TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA – OCTOBER 10: Head coach Kirby Smart of the Georgia Bulldogs walks off the field with his son, Andrew, and wife, Mary Beth, after his team's win over the Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant Denny Stadium on October 10, 2026 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Away games hit differently. Away night games, even more so. I slept well, and began the first day of my week-long Fall Break with hours to go before game time.

I’ll admit, it didn’t do anything of real note today before game time. Should I have worked on grad school stuff? Yes. Should I have worked on work stuff (the reevaluation scheduled for Tuesday morning or the IEP scheduled for Thursday morning)? Also yes. Did I? Absolutely not. I took today as a mental health day, and I really needed it.

As game time drew closer, I became more trepidatious. The talking heads didn’t miss any opportunity to remind us the last time UGA won in Tuskerloosa was way back in 2007, when Matthew Stafford passed to Mikey Henderson in overtime. To put that into perspective, Gunner Stockton was only 3 years old then.

I settled into the couch, opened DawgSports, and spent the entire game vacillating between hope and despair. Much has been (and will forever be) made about the no-call DPI call against KJ Bolden. We may never get a definitive answer – was it an uncatchable ball, or did the referee just blow it? Perhaps both things are true. I am certain we will never be given an explanation by the referees, and I am also certain we will never hear the end of it by those who call themselves Tide fans.

You watched the same game I did. Had we lost this game, I would have still held my head high. The boys played hard, despite missing some of our best players, and we came away with a hard-fought W. Make no doubt, there was some luck (and some Luckie) on the field tonight, and perhaps that makes this one sweeter.

However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog Football Wins whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of any particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my deepest honor and privilege to bring to you this week’s edition of: The Winning Smart Victory Post.

Coach Kirby Smart coached his 144th game this week for the Red & Black. He currently boasts a 123-21 record and a 0.8542 winning percentage, having carded his one hundred twenty-third win overall in the sixth game of the 2026 season against the bammers of tusker loser.

At the identical juncture in their careers:

Vince Dooley’s 144th game as head coach resulted in a Georgia Bulldogs win over Awbarn in the ninth game of the 1976 season, giving Coach Dooley a record of 97-42-5 and a 0.6910 percentage.

Coach Mark Richt was 106-38 (0.7361) after a loss to Michigan State in the 2012 Outback Bowl.

One hundred and forty four games into his head coaching career Kirby Smart is seventeen games ahead of Coach Mark Richt and ahead of Coach Vince Dooley by 26 games. As of now, he is holding his own versus the two winningest coaches in Georgia Football History.

As always . . .

Go ‘Dawgs !!!!
