College football is all about the fans. That’s why, every week, ESPN and Fox send their studio shows on the road to broadcast from the campus of one of the biggest games.
This week, ESPN’s College GameDay was in Provo, Utah, as the Utes prepare to host Notre Dame in a top-10 showdown. FS1’s Big Noon Kickoff was in Bloomington for the game between Indiana and Ohio State.
As for SEC Nation, the fans appeared to be spread way too thin in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was most evident behind Paul Finebaum during the broadcast on SEC Network. To call the crowd sparse would be an understatement—it was just two guys having a quiet conversation on a live television broadcast.

This is excellent evidence that perhaps not all college football pregame shows need to go on the road every single week. But with the College Football Playoff doubling in size, it’s clearly considered a necessity—even if no one at ESPN or SEC Network seems to agree with the deal their parent company is working out with the CFP.
