No. 2 Notre Dame football is set for a clash on Saturday night with No. 8 BYU. The Fighting Irish are 6-0 while the Cougars will enter the matchup at 5-0. Notre Dame star cornerback Leonard Moore has been dealing with a concussion, but he is reportedly “expected” to return.

“As for Notre Dame, Leonard Moore is expected back pending concussion protocols,” Pete Thamel of ESPN reported Saturday. “I’ve been told by sources, if he’s back he will start tonight. He is the Irish’s best player.”

Moore is in his third season with the Fighting Irish. He has been an impactful player at Notre Dame to say the least. In 2025, Moore recorded five interceptions, 31 total tackles and 23 solo tackles while scoring one touchdown. He has yet to intercept a pass this season, but he does have eight total tackles and four passes defended.

He is a player who causes havoc on the field. Opposing quarterbacks have to think twice before throwing to a wide receiver that Moore is covering. One-on-one coverage often favors the receiver, but that is not always the case when Moore is the cornerback.

The Notre Dame football team has enjoyed an overall strong start to the 2026 campaign. Their schedule has not been especially challenging up to this point, though. They have been able to cruise to victories over a number of unranked teams. Saturday will be a different story as the Fighting Irish play BYU on the road.

It should be a competitive contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
