Penn State predicted to play in Pinstripe Bowl

After winning the final three games of the regular season, Penn State assured itself of playing in a postseason bowl game. The bowl matchups for this season will be officially announced and confirmed on Sunday, along wiht this year's College Football Playoff bracket, but it does seem as though Penn State knows where it may be heading this bowl season. And it is not all that far away.

Brett McMurphy of On3 is reporting that Penn State will be heading to the Pinstripe Bowl as the Big Ten's representative. The Pinstripe Bowl is played in Yankee Stadium, home of the New York Yankees, and is sponsored by Bad Boy Mowers. A bowl game in a baseball stadium may not be where Penn State had hoped this season would end up, but it may still be more desirable than playing a MAC team in Detroit.

The Pinstripe Bowl matches a Big Ten team against an ACC team, but there seems to be some differences in bowl projections on which ACC team may be lining up against Penn State. Two potential options include Pittsburgh and Clemson. Either matchup would be fun to see. Penn State and Pitt have a long-standing in-state rivalry but have never faced each other in the postseason. A Penn State vs. Clemson matchup is something we thought we would see in the College Football Playoff before the season started, but it would still be fun to see Penn State take on Dabo Swinney and the Tigers in the final game of the season.

Penn State playing in the Pinstripe Bowl would be a bit of a coming full circle moment for the Nittany Lions. Penn State's last and only trip to the Pinstripe Bowl came in 2014, the first season with James Franklin as head coach. Penn State fired Franklin in the middle of this season.
