William Jewell College RB MicahJo Barnett dies after collapsing on field

William Jewell College junior running back MicahJo Barnett suddenly passed away Aug. 29.

The Cardinals announced on Saturday that Barnett passed away after Barnett collapsed on the sidelines during Saturday's Division II game against Fort Lewis College. The game was suspended.

"Forever a Cardinal," William Jewell Athletics said in a social media post. "William Jewell & the Liberty community mourn the passing of junior MicahJo Barnett. Our thoughts are with MicahJo's family, teammates, friends, & coaches."

There is a vigil expected to be held on William Jewell's campus at 8 p.m. ET on Aug. 29 for Barnett and his family.

A native of Kansas, Barnett started five games last season for the Cardinals, where he racked up a team-high 366 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 71 carries before sustaining a season-ending injury.

William Jewell is not scheduled to play again until Saturday, Sept. 12 when it travels to Kentucky Wesleyan College.
